I would like to draw the attention of President of Pakistan Mr Asif Ali Zardari towards a grave injustice being meted out to the journalists community and their families living in Media Town Loi Bher, Rawalpindi by the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Company.
The residents of A Block of Media Town, a project of Rawalpindi Press Club, are suffering due to inordinate delay by the Sui gas department to complete the gas network in the area. The SNGPL initiated the gas pipeline project in Media Town on November 1, 2007 and it had to complete it in about 18 to 20 months or by 2009 but they have abandoned the work half way leaving a major part of Media Town without this essential utility. The result is that many residents who applied for gas connections in 2010, still cannot get natural gas at their houses because the pipeline has not been joined and commissioned despite that full payment for gas supply scheme had been paid to the SNGPL.
The journalist community and their families are forced to use expensive and cumbersome LPG for household use and have suffered badly during winters as LPG or electricity are not sufficient to provide proper heating in extreme cold. I applied for gas connection on October 1, 2010 and was issued demand notice, but so far, even after the lapse of almost two years, I am still without a gas connection.
Residents of Media Town appeal to President Asif Ali Zardari, and Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain to intervene in the matter on compassionate grounds and direct the SNGPL to immediately complete the pipeline in Media Town so that small children and families do not suffer another harsh winter.
