Sugarcane harvesting and crushing at sugar plants is in full swing in Sargodha district of Pakistan, some 185 kilometers southwest of capital Islamabad. I traveled to the town of Sargodha on Jan 17-18, 2009. Here are some glimpses on the way via Islamabad-Lahore motorway.

Pakistani consumers are facing severe shortage of white refined sugar and perturbed over its price hike. The government this month increased the price from 38 rupees per kilogram to 45 rupees kilograms at its utility stores, while in the open market vendors are selling sugar at 70 rupees per kilogram.
