I was really saddened after hearing the news about the death of eight children after a train smashed into a school van at an ungated railtrack crossing in the town of Mian Channu on Wednesday morning. Every year such accidents kill many people in Pakistan at the ungated railway crossings. For how long we would allow this to happen?
Isn't it shameful that we cannot provide gated crossings at hundreds of places which are prone to accidents? We usually hear statements from President and Pirme Minister expressing their grief over the deaths and ordering inquiries into the incidents, but never hear any resolve to build automated or manned railway crossings. Perhaps they are too busy in other things and human lives of their citizens are of no value to them.
