Terror radios shut down in NW Pakistan

FM_radio_Islamabad: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Regional Office, Peshawar Thursday shut down three illegal FM radio stations operational in northwestern town of Swabi, found spreading extremism among madrassa students and residents.

These FM radios were operating in the madrassas and were instigating terrorism and extremism among their students and public. Equipment used for illegal transmission was confiscated.2 (two) transmitters were confiscated from Madrassa Taleem-ul-Quran located at Shah Mansoor and 1(one) Transmitter was confiscated from Masjid-e-Omer located at Ismaielabad, Swabi. It is worth mentioning here that PEMRA has already shut down various illegal FM radios in this area during its regular enforcement pursuit.

Regional General Manager PEMRA N.W.F.P, Region, Muhammad Farooq warned all the individuals involved in illegal FM Radio transmissions and urged to stop their illegal operations immediately. He warned to initiate stern legal action against those found indulged in illegal activities without having a valid licence from PEMRA.

It may be noted here that PEMRA is determined to eliminate the menace of illegal operations of FM radios and Cable TV networks from the county.
