Some 30,000 Pakistani troops last month launched a massive military offensive against Taliban militants in the lawless South Waziristan tribal district bordering Afghanistan. The conflict has displaced about 250,000 people. The army has secured strategic heights in a three-pronged advance into militant stronghold and killed more than 340 militants.
