My first dSLR camera

I bought my first digital camera in June 2003 from Bangkok. It was an Olympus Stylus 3.2 Mega-pixels, all-weather steel body. It came with a 16 MB XD picture card only and I also bought a 64 MB XD card with it. This camera really served me well until last year before it developed a flash problem. However, still it is a great point and shoot camera for daylight pictures. Since the flash problem in Stylus, I was looking for a new digital camera and had almost narrowed down my choice to a Sony H50.

Meanwhile, I came across this wonderful Nikon D60 18-55 VR kit at Metro Cash and Carry store in Islamabad and stated research on it. The strong competitor to D60 was Canon D1000, but after reading a lot of reviews on digital photography websites and consulting expert photographers, I finally picked up the Nikon D60 as my first digital SLR camera.

First impressions. It looked solid and felt good in hands. The controls are easily located and starting up the camera for the first time and taking the the first shot were very convenient. The results are crisp, vivid pictures with detail and I really love taking pictures with it.p4050097The D60 comes with an AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens. The package included EN-EL9 Li-ion battery and MH-23 quick charger and strap. No memory SD card was included, but it was not an issue as SD cards are not that pricey.

I was warned that D60 would not work with older lenses and only AF-S lenses with built-in auto focus motor will be needed. But that would not be an issue for a beginner like me, I think it will take about a year to know and learn the full features of kit lens and the prices of new lenses would decrease by that.  D60 is smallest dSLR available in the market and easy to carry aroound with kit lens.

Now I plan to buy a lens protection filter and only NC and L37C are recommended. The D60 cannot be used with linear polarising filters and C-PL or circular polarising filters are recommended.

Here is one of the test shots.

Congrats for choosing this state-d-art machine. I have been using NIKON cameras now for more than a quarter of a century. Presently I am using a D-80/90/200. I am sure D-60 will prove to be a worthy sibling too. Now you will feel your avenues of taking pictures have widened. As such you have been taking good pictures. Now I want to see some more from you soon !!

masroor bhai u have learned this photography art from some one? or just hit n try rule?
Masroor said…
Dear Waqas, it is basically hit n try or self-learning. plus some guidance from a friend who quit his IT-communication job to become a full-time fashion photographer.

Thnxx masroor bhai for ur kind reply.
I am in love with the nikon beasts. is it worth spending money on one of those? or i simply can buy a normal photographic digital camera for fun?
Masroor said…
Dear Waqas it depends what you want, a convenience of carrying a cam into your pocket and let it do most of the work for you or a bit bulky one to work on your command and let you experiment with different things and go beyond where normal digi cam can.
