Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhary, Chief Justice of Paksitan assumed the charge of the office after mid night on 22-03-2009. After assuming the charge, the Court roster has been approved and issued. According to the Court roster Five Benches have been constituted to work at Principal seat Islamabad. The Shariat Appellate Bench comprising of five Judges has also been formed at Islamabad. Furthermore two Benches have been formed to work at Peshawar Branch Registry whereas one Bench each established for Quetta and Lahore Branch Registries. As per cause list mostly criminal and some civil cases have been fixed before the Court. Similarly criminal Shariat petitions and appeals have also been fixed before the Shariat Appellate Bench, at the Principal seat Islamabad. The purpose is to dispose of criminal matters especially the pending cases of convicts and undertrail prisoners, so as to grant relief to prisoners who are languishing in Jail and are anxiously awaiting decisions of the Supreme Court in their pending cases.
